We recommend feeding your Dianthus in spring and again at the start of autumn. You can either use a concentrate or ready-made liquid 'All-Purpose' fertiliser and apply this a few times throughout the season. Or, you can opt to use a slow-release fertiliser, which can be applied once every 3-6 months; this will depend on the brand and product you select - ensure you read the product directions on the label.
Once your Dianthus has finished flowering, you can ‘dead-head’ spent/finished flowers, as this will often encourage the plant to re-bloom within a few weeks, if it is during the spring or autumn. Using a clean pair of secateurs, trim the old flower stems down back to the foliage. If your plant has not had an application of food recently, applying some fertiliser will give your plant an extra boost and help to encourage another flush of flowers to emerge.
The Dianthus Scent First collection consists of varieties that have gone through a detailed breeding program where plants are selected based on their flower power, fragrance, foliage form, growth habit and overall garden performance!
