‘Pukehou’ is a variety which has been performing exceptionally well in Australian gardens for more than a decade. Its striking flowers produce up to five large, showy bracts on the crown of each deep purple coloured flower head. Flowering commences in late winter and will continue well into the warmer months producing superb spring and summertime displays. Growth is compact and bushy with aromatic foliage. Of special note is ‘Pukehou’s tolerance to humidity, making it an ideal lavender choice for more temperate to sub-tropical areas of Australia. Originating in New Zealand, the name 'Pukehou' is a Maori name and translates to ‘Hill of Dedication’ which is named after a hill in the town of Manakau.

A light prune after flowering will encourage bushiness and new flower growth for next season. Plant in a full sun location with free draining soil. An application of slow release fertiliser will be of benefit in the early spring and perhaps again after flowering. Once established, mature plants are quite dry tolerant requiring only occasional deep watering during extended periods of heat.
